HPS Zoom: The 1939 New York World’s Fair
December 1 @ 7:00 pm
Guest speaker: Gregg Philipson
The presentation explores the fair from a social and political perspective as the world was on the brink of war.
This was to be greatest industrial and cultural exposition of the century. The famous Polish Jewish artist, Arthur Szyk, was exhibiting at the Polish Pavilion. Albert Einstein was part of the ceremony at the opening of the Jewish Palestine pavilion. The USSR and the Japanese pavilions were opened with much fanfare but Germany was nowhere to be found. New technologies were being introduced in communications, transportation, agriculture and manufacturing. Cultural pavilions were in abundance while the foods of the world were joyously being sampled by those in attendance. You will not want to miss this colorful and engaging historical talk by our special guest speaker Gregg Philipson!
